Helping to protect its users from bullying, harassment, domestic violence and revenge porn, Facebook’s new Safety Centre provides users with steps and resources to tackle such issues. Antigone Davis, Head of Global Safety at Facebook, said, “We’ve built the Safety Centre to help people control their experience on our platform and feel safe being themselves. It gives them access to organisations that can help tackle the bullies and seek help. If someone is being bullied, it is probably not just a problem on Facebook, and we wanted to help solve the broader problem, too.” Additionally, Antigone says the social media giant now aims to have removed any inappropriate pages, messages, or posts within 48 hours. Within the school environment, schools can use safeguarding tools such as web metering or blocking and keyword monitoring to help align their safeguarding policies with legislation requirements.
